Weather Affects Your Exterior Paint, Says Arlington Painting Company

Arlington painting company considers the weather’s effect on outdoor paint. There’s no question that this summer will be another scorcher for the DFW area — like your favorite movie and a big bucket of popcorn, sunshine just goes hand in hand with summer in Texas. But how does all that heat affect your exterior paint job? If you are considering tackling an outside painting project this summer, there are a few things you need to know about how extreme temperatures will affect the end result. Your Arlington painting company, Platinum Painting, has the details in this week’s blog post.

Considerations for Exterior Painting During Hot Weather

The ideal temperature for an outside paint job ranges around 70 degrees Fahrenheit with about 50 percent humidity. No, that’s probably not going to happen during May, June, July, or August in Texas (at least not for a day you could plan on). You can still paint on most hot days, though, with a few considerations.

Because there are a number of things that could go wrong when you paint during extreme temperatures, it is really best to trust professionals to get the job done right from the start. But if you are considering painting yourself, here are some things you will need to bear in mind to keep your cool during a hot summer paint job.

  • Remember that the surface temperature is hotter, about 10 to 15 degrees more, than the air. The paint will identify recommended temperatures based on surface temperature.
  • Do not paint directly in the sun — base your painting on the movement of the sun.
  • Rolling is not a good idea during heat. It results in uneven application or even pulling the paint off again. Spray paint or back rolling are the best idea.
  • Areas around caulking expand and almost disappear during the heat.
  • Humidity will play a significant factor in everything from how the tape holds around trim to how slippery or stable your ladder is when you’re standing on it.
