Timely Transformations: How to Paint a Room in One Day

Is it time to transform one of the rooms in your home with a fresh coat of paint? You’re probably really looking forward to the process, and though it might seem like a lot of work, there are no doubts that the outcome will completely amaze you. And with the right preparation and approach, you can beautifully transform your space – even in just one day! Continue reading below for some key things to consider if you’re hoping to complete your interior painting in a timely fashion.

Preparation Is Key

After you’ve collected all your painting supplies, including various brushes and rollers, painter’s tape, paint pans and buckets, and tarps to cover the floor, you can begin focusing on prep. The day or night before you paint, you’ll want to get started. Move any furniture away from the walls, cover any pieces you want protected (in addition to the floors), and remove any décor and artwork from your walls. Also remove hooks, nails, or anything else that might be in the walls as well as cover plates to electrical outlets and switches. It’s also wise to take a cleaning towel and wipe down the tops of baseboards and around any other moldings that will be near paint so that your tape will properly adhere.

Paint Using the Correct Methods

If you’ve opted to paint yourself, it’s imperative that you do things the right way. Consider these steps:

  • Cut In: Use a brush to “cut in” around the edges of the walls, near the ceiling, trim, and corners. This creates a border that you can easily blend with your roller.
  • Roll the Paint: Pour your paint into a tray and load your roller, and start painting the walls in small sections, working in an “M” or “W” pattern. Blend into areas where you cut in with the brush.
  • Second Coat: Most walls will need at least two coats of paint, and you should be using paint with a built-in primer. Allow the first coat to dry before applying the second one – it shouldn’t need more than an hour or two.

Don’t Neglect Cleanup

Be sure you’re giving yourself time to clean up once you’ve wrapped up painting – this is an important step that shouldn’t be neglected and will also allow you to witness your finished results in their true form, up against your furniture and décor. Throw away all trash and tape, clean up all paint materials, rinse your brushes before storing them, and move everything back to where it was before you started.

Know What You’re Capable Of

It’s not always easy to find a free day to complete an interior painting project, nor will it be feasible for all homeowners. Plus, if this is the first time you’ve attempted to interior paint yourself, you might not feel confident or capable of completing it fast – and that’s perfectly okay! In these situations, you can seek out help; you can trust a team of professional painters to handle your project and deliver results that you’ll love.
